SAFETY AND INTEGRITY
FIRESTOP COMPOUNDS
Firestop compounds are essential for sealing service penetrations in fire-resistant walls and floors, preventing the spread of fire, smoke, and gases through gaps. These compounds, typically gypsum-based, are specifically formulated to be mixed with water and applied around service penetrations to ensure the integrity of fire-rated barriers.

What is Firestop Compound?

Firestop compound is a specially formulated gypsum-based mortar that is used to seal gaps around service penetrations. Explore its application to:
- Floors: It is applied over a permanent shutter panel, sealing the gap between services and the floor slab.
- Walls: A stiff consistency of the compound is mixed and trowelled into openings to prevent the spread of fire.
Firestop compound is highly effective, when dry, to maintain load bearing areas and providing long-term protection when used on floors and walls.
Once applied, the compound sets within 30-45 minutes and can accommodate foot traffic in 72 hours.
Additional Protection for Pipes and Cables
The compound is designed to withstand the extreme temperatures encountered during a fire, ensuring the structural integrity of your building remains intact.
Plastic pipework and cables must also be protected with Fire Stop Collars or Intumescent Closing Device to prevent fire from traveling through these essential service areas.
